Grad studies x Research Ethics Intensive Day 1: Introduction to “Research Ethics” and “Responsible Conduct of Research”.
Emily Carr University, like all government-funded institutions engaging in research across Canada, has a research ethics board. The Emily Carr University Research Ethics Board (ECU-REB) reviews and pre-approves all projects that involve people as research participants. For first-time applicants to the ECU-REB the process can raise questions:
Do all art and design projects need ethics approval?
What are the ethical issues that an REB considers?
How does the review work?
What are other ways to improve the ethics of a thesis project?
This presentation and workshop will address these questions and provide a road map for the research ethics review process at Emily Carr. Students will hear about thesis projects that have been reviewed by the ECU-REB, and will try out the role of “research ethics reviewer” for themselves.
